General Info

 Marriage licenses are issued by counties and you can apply for your license at any county clerk's. Click Here for Clerk of the Court contact information by county. 

 You can get married in any county in Florida, regardless of where you obtained your marriage license. The marriage license needs to be returned to the county clerk it was obtained from.

 To obtain a marriage license you need:

• Identification: a picture ID such as a driver's license, state ID card, or valid passport; both parties will also have to provide their Social Security numbers, but do not need to provide their Social Security Cards.

• Fees: Varies by county (approx. $87).

  • Marriage license fees can be reduced by approx. $25 if you complete a 4 hour pre-marital course. Course Provider must be registered with County Clerk you are obtaining marriage license from.

• The Effective Date (box 18a on license) is the date you can get married.

  • If either of you are a Florida resident, there will be a 3-day waiting period, and your Effective Date will be three days after the Date License Issued (box 18 on license).

  • If you neither of you are a Florida resident, or you have completed the 4 hour pre-marital course, the 3-day waiting period is waived.

• Marriage license is valid for 60 days after Effective Date (box 18a on license). Your marriage ceremony must happen before the Expiration Date (box 19 on license).
